Life for Sam wasn’t supposed to turn out the way it did. At just two years old, he is left fighting for his life, after years of neglect, and abuse from a heartless owner is taking a physical toll on his body. Sam, who shelter staff at the high-kill San Antonio Animal Care Services refer to as gentle, loving and kind, is facing a stark reality if he isn’t adopted soon. Because he is in poor shape with his health, patrons to the city funded shelter have passed him up for dogs who are in “better shape,” according to an anonymous shelter source.
At just two years old, the brown Labrador retriever should be out enjoying life with a family who loves and adores him. Instead, he makes a cold concrete slab the only solace where he lays his fragile head. A Petharbor listing for Sam reads,
