A 35-year-old Weymouth woman kicked a kitten to death outside her apartment and has been charged with animal cruelty, according to police.

Eleanor M. Campbell, 5 Saunders St., unit 1 also was charged with disturbing the peace in connection with the alleged incident outside her residence Friday, Nov. 4.

Campbell is due to be arraigned in Quincy District Court Monday, Nov. 7 to answer the charges.

Defendants convicted of animal cruelty can be fined $5,000 and sentenced up to seven years in prison under state law.

A police report states an officer was summoned to Campbell’s apartment unit at 8:55 p.m. by a neighbor who reported a possible domestic disturbance.

The officer reported meeting Campbell in the driveway and stated everything was OK when he arrived.

I asked her if she had been fighting with anyone in the apartment,” the report stated. “She stated no, and that again she did not call the police.”

Campbell also refused to give her name to the officer, according to the report.

“She told me that it was none of my business,” the report stated. “I asked her how much did she have to drink tonight? She told me one-and-one-half-beers. I asked how big were they? She told me, does it matter?”

The officer said he asked Campbell to return to her apartment and to keep the noise down before leaving the scene.

Police reported returning to the apartment approximately 20 minutes later on a report of a female in the driveway throwing debris at her neighbor’s car.

An officer reported seeing clothes draped over a parked car in the driveway and the woman, later identified as Campbell, was standing near the car wearing only a T-shirt and socks, and yelling obscenities toward her neighbor’s apartment.

“I advised Mrs. Campbell she was under arrest for disorderly conduct,” police said.

The officer said he placed Campbell in a cruiser with help from another officer and then noticed a small kitten lying on the driveway near the front of the car.

“The kitten appeared to have been stomped and flattened by someone,” police said.

The tiger kitten was believed to be approximately three-to –four-months old, and taken to VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in Weymouth for examination according to police.

A necropsy or autopsy will be performed on the kitten by New England Wildlife Center veterinary investigative staff, according to police.

Police said socks worn by Campbell were splattered with blood.

“…with the splatter of blood on Campbell’s legs it confirmed that the cat was stomped on by Campbell,” police said.

Police said Campbell was questioned and she mentioned her daughter was in the apartment, but no children were located in the dwelling.

“It was clear that Campbell was the only one home and outside (the apartment) both times in the driveway,” police said. “Campbell had in fact a fit of rage from induced alcohol.”
