Hoping for love, Stray Senior Pup Shows Up On Family’s Front Door Step and Refused To Leave

Chelsea Lopez was arriving home from work at around 1 a.m. and got the surprise of a lifetime when she pulled into her driveway.  She noticed a large black dog run towards her car, and was at first intimidated because she thought the dog might be aggressive. However, as she got closer, she realized that the pup was a total sweetheart, putting her at ease. She thought to herself that the dog might be lost, and so she set about trying to locate her owner.

Lopez said,

“I noticed that she didn’t have a collar but her fur on her neck looked like there used to be one there. I could tell she was a family dog, so I assumed she just got out of someone’s yard or something.”

Not thinking much of it, an exhausted Lopez went to bed, not before leaving food and water for the dog, thinking that once she had her fill she might go home. Lopez woke up the next morning and was shocked to still see the dog on her porch, right where she left her.

The poor dog, whose name is Maggie, cried all night long, waiting for Lopez to come back outside, and play with her. Lopez had to go to class in the morning, and so she played with Maggie for a little bit, before heading out. It was heartbreaking to see Maggie cry as she left. When Lopez returned from class a few hours later Maggie was still there waiting for her. Lopez said,

“I just kept thinking that someone would be looking for her, or she would go home. I was wrong.”

After snapping a few pictures of Maggie, Lopez canvassed the neighborhood looking for her potential owners, in the hope she could reunite Maggie with them. All the while, Maggie trailed Lopez wherever she went looking for love, and attention.

The next day, Lopez and her husband took Maggie in their home for a few nights, and then took her to an animal control office, that scanned her for a microchip, in the hopes of locating her owners. The whole time she was gone, Lopez and her husband wondered whatever happened to the dog that brightened their spirits for the few days she entered their lives.

Lopez continues,

“My husband and I fell in love with her and wanted to make sure she was alright. So we would visit as much as we could, and on days we couldn’t visit her, we called up there to see if her family claimed her. We wanted it to work out for her so bad.”

After about a week of waiting to see if the shelter could locate an owner for Maggie, the shelter finally called Lopez and told her that she was available for adoption. Lopez continues,

“We showed up as soon as the shelter opened to take her home.”

Lopez and her husband already had a dog named Charlie living in the home, who suffered from severe separation anxiety, and had a general fear of people himself. However, as soon as Maggie entered his life, she charmed her way into his heart too.

Lopez continues,

“When we brought her home, they fell in love with each other,” Lopez said. “He no longer barks when we leave the house, as long as Maggie is there. She is the glue to the family.”

Five months later, Lopez and her husband adopted a frightened little dog named Moko, who was so terrified he tucked himself into a corner. That was until he met Maggie, and she changed him forever. Maggie is truly the glue that holds everyone together.

A few weeks ago, Lopez noticed that Maggie was sluggish, and less interested in playing then she normally would. A concerned Lopez took her to the vet, who soon diagnosed the senior pup with diabetes.

Lopez concludes,

“My husband and I knew that a side effect of diabetes was possible loss of sight. So, when we found out, we made sure to get all of the activities that Maggie loves in while she could see. We went camping, swam in the lake and took a road trip.”

Since then, Maggie has lost all her site, however, that hasn’t stopped her from being the most loving, caring dog in the world. She is adjusting well to her blindness, and is still the same dog that they have come to known and love.
