In Mineral Wells, West Virginia, Tamara Briggs, 28, has been arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty for abusing her small pit bull puppy. Briggs was eventually released after posting a $4,000 bond and is due back in court for a status hearing sometime before the end of the year. Authorities say they were tipped off by friends of Briggs who were trying to stop her from causing further injuries to the puppy.
Police eventually showed up to her home, to open an inquiry into an animal welfare and safety case and Briggs was cooperative. After some questioning, she readily admitted to abusing two small pit bull dogs and was subsequently placed under arrest for felony cruelty.
The most severely injured puppy, whose name was not released by police was transferred to the Parkersburg Humane Society, where he was assessed by on-staff doctors. Unfortunately, in addition to broken ribs, the pups spine was fractured, meaning he might never walk without assistance for the rest of his life.

Michelle Earl, executive director of the Parkersburg Humane Society is vigilant and will do everything she can to bring justice in this case saying:
“We plan to be very involved with the prosecution of this to take care of Casper and see how helpless he is now because of somebody inflicting trauma to him is just senseless, and we want people to know that we’re not going to tolerate it. We are going to press charges and we are going to try to execute to the fullest extent to the law the punishment that we can give to people.”
Casper, along with his sibling, has since been transferred to a rescue in Maryland, that specializes exclusively in the care of pit bull puppies, where he will remain until Briggs case is fully adjudicated
