Shelter Staff Emotional As Death Row Pup They Affectionately Named Elvis is Scheduled To Be Euthanized

Life at the Carson Animal Shelter in California is no cake walk to say and write the least. Just walking into the building, you are overwhelmed with the sadness of the plight that many dogs face on a day to day basis. The sad reality is that for every 4 dogs who are surrendered to this high kill facility, 2 only make it out alive. If you are a bully breed (i.e. pit bull, terriers) the odds of you making it out of the Carson Shelter alive are even slimmer. A dog named Elvis knows all about this statistic if you ask him, and he seems to know his time is running out.

Affectionally named Elvis by staff at the shelter because he makes everyone’s “heart sing,” Elvis is filled with love. Elvis is sweet, kind, outgoing, and is sure to greet anyone who visits his kennel space with warmth and love. Unfortunately for Elvis, this hasn’t translated into much interest for him as shelter patrons routinely pass him up for adoption. According to a confidential source at the shelter, Elvis will soon be moved to the back (death row), where he is scheduled to be euthanized if they can not find him a home within the coming days. This development has made staff who love him so dearly, emotional because if there is anyone deserving of a second chance, it is Elvis.

A Petharbor listing for Elvis reads,

“My name is Elvis and I am described as a male, blue and white Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years old. I have been at the shelter since Sep 11, 2016.”

Elvis is beloved by the staff and has been at the Carson Animal Shelter since September 11, past one month, and it is nothing shorter than grace that he is still alive. Most dogs who can not find homes at the Carson Shelter in as little as two weeks are often put down. If you or someone you know is interested in giving this precious pup the forever home he rightfully deserves, please contact the Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566 and reference the shelter ID #A4991708. Additionally please share this story on Facebook or Twitter, so we are closer to finding Elvis the forever home he rightfully deserves. We have done it before and can certainly do it again.

  1. This dog would not be ‘euthanized’, but killed or put to death. Please STOP misusing that word. You don’t euthanize a healthy dog…you kill them. You euthanize a dog that is suffering and beyond hope. Look up the meaning of the word. It has been hijacked by shelters so they don’t have to use the real words. You take your beloved pet of 15 years to the vet to be euthanized. Killing healthy dogs is NOT euthanizing them.
They kill thousands at Carson every year. And people stand in line to surrender them, including elderly dogs. They bring them back when they are old when they adopted them as puppies. It is insane there.

  2. California…..you need to make spay/neuter a LAW. You are KILLING millions of good dogs/cats because of stupid irresponsible humans!!!!!

  3. Stop KILLING healthy dogs! Its not their fault they end up with irresponsible owners. They all deserve a forever home. You should be putting more effort into finding that forever home

  4. Hello to everyone of Angeles County Animal Control. I am Shein Luis from Philippines and I saw and I read about Elvis a pitbull terrier who is a loving and caring dog. I know that you are looking for a person who can provide all the things for the dog but can I Adopt him??? The reason why I want to adopt him is because I dont want you to put him down, I want him to be with me so that I want him to realize that there is a good person who wants to give a big love for him. I want him to give another chance to live coz he deserve that. Aside from that, I always want a dog that I want to play with him everyday, I always want a dog because everytime I saw a person who has a dog, I always feel envious because I dont have a dog and I really want a dog because they are really fun. Thats why I hope you would understand the feelings that I dont have a dog and I hope also that you would understand that I want him to give another chance to leave just dont put him down. Please.

    • Shein Antonio Luis, you need to contact the Carson Animal Shelter, CA 310-523-9566, shelter id for Elvis is #A4991708. Ask them how to handle this adoption.

  5. If you are interested in providing a loving, nurturing, indoor home for this sweet baby, PLEASE don’t just comment here—please pick up the phone and call the LA animal control. Just as is stated in the article above — the pup’s name is Elvis and he is at their Carson shelter. Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566 and reference the shelter ID #A4991708. There are often dog transports that transport all across this country so with a little networking, it may be possible to have this baby transported. Rescue takes a village and can often mobilize, but not if you don’t contact, and communicate your interest clearly with the shelters, and sometimes that requires perseverance… but nothing compared to the dedication a dog deserves for a lifetime, so if you’re really willing to love him forever, this will not be a big hurdle. Thank you and good luck!!!

  6. ADOPTED!!! 10/28

And to those so quick to criticize shelters for euthanizing………get the F out and educate!!……there are numerous low cost or free S/N clinics all around L.A. and neighboring counties….the shelter I volunteer with works in conjunction with s/n clinics…the turn out is sadly small……..our county does have a law….but how tell me how to enforce when all county shelters are understaffed…….and…..please…stop demonizing shelter workers…this story should have shown you that they too are emotionally stressed………

  7. I’ll be glad to give him a forever home. Ship him to me here in South Carolina and he will live out his life healthy, happy ,and safe with my pit bull rescue.

  8. I just wondered if there was a happy update. If I could take him I would. But I rent and my landlady would not let me adopt him. Not even if it meant saving his life.
